Ok, so I'm going to try to make it a habit of...
Mondays = Music
Tuesdays = Books
Thursdays = Movies
Fridays = Video-Games
... and all the other days will probably be humorous anecdotes, and my four lovely cats.
Today, I want to introduce you all to -
I received this little beauty in the mail today.
Actually, there's a funny story about how it arrived. So, story-time!
I ordered it maybe two weeks ago through BarnesAndNoble.com and granted they shipped it the very same day, so it was only a matter of four or five days before it got to me. It generally works that way when I order books from there. Well, the first time they tried to deliver it, I was at work, so UPS took it back to their facility to try to deliver it again. When I got home and saw the note on the door, I decided to save them the trip and go pick it up from their facility myself. I called the hotline and asked if they would hold it there for me and I would pick it up the next day when I was off of work.
This was all well and good until 12:30p rolled around the next day. Right when they opened up, I stepped inside and told them I had a couple of packages to pick up. They gave me one right away but the other package (containing 'Iron West' was nowhere to be found. They insisted for a long time that it was only one package but I'm glad I persisted. Barnes & Noble gave me two tracking numbers for the items I order so assumed (and was correct) there was two packages. Well, they look and look and look for about thirty minutes. Now, I'm not only a little anxious but also late for a movie date with my girlfriend Felicia, and boy was she mad about it! - I gave them my phone number and told them to call me if they found the package.
We switched the tickets to a later showing, and enjoyed our date. I didn't receive a call from UPS all afternoon, but in the evening when we got home, there was another note on our door. UPS had tried to deliver the package again. I guess it accidentally got back onto the truck and not held in the back like I requested. This all happened Friday afternoon, so unfortunately I wasn't able to pick it up again until today what with the holiday and everything. Nevertheless, I'm glad we finally figured out where it was.
.... and now that my story is over.
I first accidentally stumbled on Doug TenNapel while flipping through a copy of Ghostopolis as it came through our route at the public library on evening. I enjoyed the art in it so much that I really wanted to read the rest of TenNapel's work.
Well, unfortunately, we didn't have any more of his graphic novels, so I went hunting online for what I could find.
I purchased Gear, Iron West, and Monster Zoo first - (and I'm really looking forward to getting a copy of Creature Tech GN and Power Up .... and Tommysaurus Rex... hell, I want them all!)
I've read all three now, and this one is my favorite!
I mean, how can you go wrong? - cowboys, Indians, robots, the Loch Ness Monster, AND Sasquatch?
My only really criticism of it is that it moves so fast. I really wish that the book was longer. It seems so rushed.
Please go read it now!
Seems almost comical in its subject matter--I'll go see if I can find it in my library. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's really a great read!
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about TenNapel is how this could have gotten bogged down from us all being cynical world-weary adults *coughDCMarvelcough* and easily have been a Frankenstein copycat- but TenNapel's work always retains a youthful-ness without being childish. Like Disney without the family-fun obligatory musical numbers lol.
