I am a horrible person :(
My first broken promise is to you, Blog. I promised that I would update you every day! -or at least try to anyway. But I have not updated you in an entire month for no good reason or excuse at all and for that, I apologize.
The second broken promise is that I swore up and down to some of my anime-loving friends in high school that I would never get involved in an "anime soap-opera"
By "anime soap-opera" I mean, an anime show that is so ridiculously long that most of the viewers have forgotten what the original storyline is, who the original characters are, or why the fuck are we doing this again.
Famous examples of these are....
BLEACH
Naruto
One Piece
Inuyasha
Dragonball Z
and occasionally I throw Sailor Moon into this category as well. I can argue that despite being 200+ episodes long, Sailor Moon is relatively easy to follow with plots and characters, even if those plots and characters are a little weak.
I will confess that this broken promise isn't entirely my fault. Time for another fascinating yarn-!
You all may very well know that I work as a circulation clerk at my local library. I'm pretty low on the totem pole as far as what the library does program-wise; however, one day while conversing with the young-adult librarian, I suppose I let my inner otaku slip out and all of a sudden, we are putting together an anime club sponsored partially by the public library.
I hadn't watched a lot of anime or read a lot of manga or, hell, even read any fanfiction since I graduated from high school. I dabbled a little freshman year of college and then I kind of dropped the hobby altogether. There just wasn't enough time or money and none of my college friends frankly cared about anime, so it slipped out of my life with a sigh. Now that we were starting this new club, I wanted to be in the know as to what was cool with the young crowds these days and decided to get back into anime- some of the more recent stuff that I had missed. So, naturally, I picked the stuff I heard the most about and the ones we had readily accessible.
So far I have dabbled in...
BLEACH (through volumes 24 of the manga, and episodes 20 of the anime)
Fullmetal Alchemist (through volumes 6 of the manga, and episodes 7 of the anime)
Naruto (through episodes 5 of the anime)
.... and boys and girls...
I am enjoying myself. I enjoy anime soap-operas.
